Why is so easy for humans to dehumanize other humans?

Why are we the only species on the planet that does this?
And why can we not stop doing this?

When we dehumanizes others we, ourselves lose touch with our
own humanity. Each of must ask this question, where have I
dehumanized others and how do I bring more awareness and respect
to others. It has to begin with me.

Alert: Call your Democratic Senator today and tell them to vote no!

We have forty eight hours to stop the CR in the Senate. (It looks like it will pass in the house with only
Republicans.). Stopping this bill Is the only tool in the tool box in stopping the Musk rampage.

Let your senator know why it is important that we stop this bill in its current form even if it
shuts down the government.

"Will Dems Pick Up Their Sword?"

Ed. Note: I go into a lot of detail below. The bottom line is Democrats have about 48 hours to convince D senators to clip Elon’s wings. It’s still totally doable. But it has to happen in the next 48 hours.)

We’re now down to the wire with the so-called “continuing resolution” fight. And just to take this out of Congress-speak, this is a temporary spending bill that will keep the government running, such as it is, until Republicans can pass their full budget in the early fall — that’s the one that will slash health care coverage and other safety net spending to give the Elon crowd a massive tax cut. After almost two months of a criminal wilding spree on the republic, interspersed with lots of “cry more!”s and “sucks to be you”s, Republicans now come to Democrats and say: hey, now we need your help to keep going. The bill is essentially a license for Elon to keep the party going right through the Fall.

The bill is being billed as a “clean CR” — in other words, just continuation of the Biden budget. That’s not true. It’s the Biden-era stuff plus new money for a bunch of Trump priorities. What it doesn’t do is lock in the Musk-illegal cuts. What that also means is that it appropriates a bunch of money for stuff Elon has already shut down. So where’s that money go exactly?

Conventional wisdom is now that Republicans will be able to get their bill through the House with only their own votes. For Republicans, that’s impressive because it means losing like one vote. Perhaps this is wrong. But I’m assuming it’s right. Because no one in their caucus seems to be saying otherwise. But that doesn’t change the overall equation because Republicans still need seven Democratic votes in the Senate.

Fascism Expert Timothy Snyder Says Trump's Oligarchical Coup Is Fading

This is encouraging for us looking for green shoots of resistance. What we already see
is beginning to push back and have impact.

https://www.politicususa.com/p/fascism-expert-timothy-snyder-says

If you have read about fascism and tyranny or watched cable news, you have probably seen Professor Timothy Snyder, who has been warning about Trump and tyranny for a few years now.

Snyder’s book On Tyranny is one of the go-to modern works for people who want to understand tyranny and how to fight it, so what Professor Snyder posted on his X account on Saturday merits attention.

Snyder posted:

Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power.

Professor Snyder’s perception is backed up by a mountain of polling that shows the country turning against Donald Trump in increasing numbers. If polling isn’t convincing, consider the large and growing number of almost daily protests directed at what Trump and Musk are doing.

And brought the second wave of feminism,

fighting for ERA. They were the leaders of anti-war movement as well. They
and the early boomers literally and single handedly changed American culture for the better
loosing our sexual mores and increasing tolerance. It was an amazing time of change.

I think often of this song of my youth.

How ominous it sounded then. How prescient it was. How expressive it is now
in defining the grief we feel at the loss the very nature that sustains us.

The only way to get it, is to spend about 45 minutes reading the Atlantic article.

The author explained that this was a far better and much more organized campaign than
2016 or 2020.

These campaign managers were implementing their theory of the campaign and it
was working. If you need proof, look at the CNN poll released today. Look where the country was
headed Sunday morning. They had substantially weakened Biden's 2020 coalition.
The only thing that was going to change the trajectory or the election, was for Biden to step down.

Of course it is a moot point now and they are undone. I would not be surprise if
Trump fires them.

And stop underestimating Trump, the cheating, lying and attempted steal of the government,
even the crimes and conviction do not matter to one half of American citizens.
Why? I do not know, but they just do not. Gaslighting works. That is why demagogues always use it.

July 24, 2024

it is not my premise that is the issue.

It was theirs. This was most likely this article that convinced Pelosi, the majority of Congress,
and maybe even Biden that he had step aside. It is chilling.how close they came to it working.

It was predicated on the perceived weakness of Biden and the actual lack of enthusiasm in
the base, plus making inroads into the minority votes in the swing states. And it was
clearly working. They and all of us were looking at realignment election that would have
destroyed our constitutional democracy.

July 21, 2024

Perception is reality.

Facts do not matter; perceptions do. Swing voters are not listening to your arguments.

They see as Biden as not as strong as Trump. That is what they will vote on, perception of strength
over competence.

As much as you want it to go away, posts like this

are not going to stop the chaos or the disagreement with your position.

The debate ignited a previously simmering discontent in the Party and in the country.
Clearly many want Biden to stay and others want a new an younger candidate. Polls
of the base indicate around 50% for Biden and 50% a younger candidate.
The answer is not clear and time is running short. This not a time for suppression and
it is not time for anger as I see so much of on DU.

We are facing an existential danger and in an old fashion phrase: Everybody is running
around like a chicken with their head cut off.

Start by calming down and and start listening to what each side is saying. Suppressing
desent will only tear the party apart.

Nearly two-thirds of Democrats want Biden to withdraw, new AP-NORC poll finds

This is a very troubling poll that indicates our party is disarray:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly two-thirds of Democrats say President Joe Biden should withdraw from the presidential race and let his party nominate a different candidate, according to a new poll, sharply undercutting his post-debate claim that “average Democrats” are still with him even if some “big names” are turning on him.

The new survey by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, conducted as Biden works to salvage his candidacy two weeks after his debate flop, also found that only about 3 in 10 Democrats are extremely or very confident that he has the mental capability to serve effectively as president, down slightly from 40% in an AP-NORC poll in February.

The findings underscore the challenges the 81-year-old president faces as he tries to silence calls from within his own party to leave the race and tries to convince Democrats that he’s the best candidate to defeat Donald Trump. The poll was conducted mostly before Saturday’s assassination attempt on Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. It’s unclear whether the shooting influenced people’s views of Biden, but the small number of poll interviews completed after the shooting provided no early indication that his prospects improved.
